Help!!  Config problem??
Hey everyone, We just installed Exchange 2007 in our production environment for email. The configuration was not done properly, so the servers were then blown away and started from scratch without uninstalling. Now when we reinstalled Exchange 2007, the servers from the previous install are still in the Server Configuration screen. I guessithad incorporated itself into AD or the DC registry. Is there any way to remove these old servers from the list? It's too late todo an uninstall seeing that they no longer exist. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dre

It is too late to 'uninstall' Exchange since those servers are wiped. Exchange stores it's configuration information in Active Directory so you'll need to perform a manual cleanup of the settings and potential object attribute data is you mean to start with a 'clean slate'. I must say that editing AD directly with the support tools can make matters worse if you are not completely sure about which objects to remove. These should point you in the right direction: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998313(EXCHG.80).aspx http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=839779&SiteID=17 http://theessentialexchange.com/blogs/michael/archive/2008/01/04/manually-removing-an-exchange-2007-organization.aspx Another, safer (yet more time-consuming) option is to perform a disaster recovery installation of the Exchange server, and then properly decommision it as outlined in theTechnet link above.
